How to choose a cosmetic clinic in Riyadh: seven questions before you book

Who exactly will perform the procedure?

The first and most important question. The name, the specialty, the professional classification. Cosmetic injection and laser sessions are medical practices requiring precise anatomical knowledge, not manual skills acquired through repetition.

You have the right to know whether the person treating you is a consultant, a specialist or a device technician, and to know it before booking rather than after you enter the room.

Is the facility licensed?

Medical clinics in the Kingdom are licensed by the Ministry of Health, and practitioners are classified and registered with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.

These are not administrative details. Licensing means the facility is equipped to handle complications if they arise, and that there is a body to turn to if something goes wrong.

Did the consultation start with a diagnosis or an offer?

The clearest indicator of good practice. A proper consultation begins with questions about your case, medical history and medication, then an examination, then a recommendation.

If the meeting opens with a package or a discount expiring today, that is selling, not diagnosing. Time pressure applied to a medical decision is a sign worth pausing on.

Were the risks explained to you?

Every medical procedure carries a chance of complication, however minor. Someone who tells you the risks, the possibilities and their likelihood is someone respecting your decision.

Anyone telling you a procedure carries no risk whatsoever either does not know or is not telling you. Either is reason enough to look elsewhere.

Are the expectations realistic?

A good doctor will sometimes tell you that what you are asking for will not give you what you are picturing, that your case needs a different option, or that you do not need the procedure at all.

The ability to say no is the strongest indicator that a place puts your result ahead of your invoice.

What is the follow-up plan?

Ask: if a complication occurs, who do I see? When is the follow-up appointment? Is it included in the procedure?

A ready, organised answer means a practice that follows up its patients rather than ending the relationship at payment.

Is the cost clear before you start?

The full cost, including expected sessions, follow-up and any consumables, should be clear before any procedure begins.

Vagueness in pricing, or additional costs appearing midway through a plan, is an administrative signal, but it says something about the whole place.
